Frequently Asked Questions
You Have Questions, We Have Answers...
With over 10,000 moves under our belt we’ve learned a lot. Here are answers to the questions we hear the most:
Our Company & Services
Is Wondermove an independent company or just another van line affiliate/broker?
Wondermove is 100% independently owned and has no van line affiliation. Every staff member is an employee of Wondermove and we operate our own trucks and warehouse. We believe the only way to guarantee a great moving experience is to control the process end-to-end.
Is Wondermove licensed and insured?
Yes, absolutely! Wondermove is in compliance will all state and federal requirements to operate as a local, intrastate, and interstate moving carrier.
How long have you been in business for?
Wondermove has proudly been in business for 14 years and counting. Our experience is one of many ingredients that will make your next move, your best move.
Are you able to store belongings as well?
With over 15,000 square feet of warehousing space, we can meet any storage request, large or small. From overnight to permanent storage, we have a solution for every situation.
Do you move heavy/bulky items?
Absolutely, we move upright pianos, exercise equipment, gun safes and more. Include any such item(s) on your inventory and we’ll take it from there.
My building requires a COI (certificate of insurance), can you provide this?
Once your move is scheduled, a relocation specialist can provide one for your building at no additional cost.
Pricing & Payment
How much will my move cost?
Due to an infinite number of moving variables, completing our online form is the best way to get a quote. If you want our hourly rate, give us a call, but without more details, we can’t answer the most important question regarding how long your move will take.
Is a deposit required to reserve my move?
Wondermove requires a deposit to reserve a move date and time. The deposit reflects 25% of the estimated move cost and is automatically credited towards your final balance upon completion.
When is the remainder due?
- Local Moves (hourly) – Remainder is due upon completion of the move
- Long Distance Moves (weight based) – Remainder is due upon arrival at the destination, prior to unloading per state and federal law.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept all major credit/debit cards and cashier checks. Cash is only accepted for local/hourly jobs. We do not accept personal checks.
Pre-Move
How far in advance should I reserve my move?
We recommend 2-4 weeks if you’re interested in securing a specific date. The larger/farther away the move, the more lead time.
If my inventory changes from the time of booking to my move date, do I have to inform Wondermove?
It depends how much it changes. If you have 35 boxes instead of the 30 you disclosed, your quote won’t change. If you forgot about an entire room or didn’t end up selling those two bedroom sets, definitely let us know.
If I didn’t finish packing can you help the day of?
If we can we will, but it all depends. If we have the materials and the availability in our schedule we’ll always help you out. The sooner we know about an increase in the scope of your move, the more likely it is that we can help out.
Do I have to remove items from my drawers (dressers, desks, etc.)?
Our formal recommendation is to remove all contents from drawers. It will ensure that small contents won’t slip out, and it will reduce the item’s overall weight, making it safer/easier to maneuver.
Can I use plastic totes/bins to pack?
Yes, in fact, we encourage using plastic crates due to their uniform size. Always ensure any fragile items are still correctly packed and that every bin has a functioning lid.
Can I use garbage bags to pack?
We strongly recommend against moving with any type of plastic bag. We do not cover damage to items packed in bags because they can easily catch and rip when passing through doorways. Plastic bags are also difficult to efficiently stack in our truck.
Are there any items we should move ourselves?
We do not provide any coverage or liability for cash, jewelry, fine coins, documents, precious metals/stones or any similar items. We recommend moving items such as laptops and delicate electronics in your car if possible.
Are there any items you will not move?
Yes great question! We do not move liquids, chemicals, hazardous materials, live plants, firearms, or perishable food items.
What are helpful things I can do to make the move easier/faster?
The following things are what our movers appreciate most:
- Properly packed and sealed boxes (tip: boxes should weigh < 40lbs)
- Clear walkways and clear furniture surfaces of loose items
- A clean, safe working environment. We love kids and pets, but not on moving day.
- Close parking proximity (if applicable)
Move Day!
When will the movers arrive?
An arrival window is displayed on your estimate and moving contract. Unless notified, your crew will arrive within this designated window. An automated text message will be sent to you when your crew is on the way.
Do I have to be present?
Yes, we strongly recommend being present. This allows for you to properly instruct the crew on what items need to be moved. Additionally, several contract signatures are required throughout the duration of your move.
Will the movers put things where I want them to?
Of course, simply let them know where you would like each item when the truck is being unloaded and they will gladly put it wherever you like.
Will they label the contents of boxes that are packed?
If an employee of Wondermove is packing for you, each box will be labeled with the room it came out of and the general contents that are inside.
After The Move
What if I can’t find an item?
We recommend fully unpacking and even checking between cushions if you can’t find something (we’ve seen it all). If you still can’t find an item give us a call and we’ll gladly check our trucks for any items that may have been left behind.
What happens if an item is damaged?
Contact your relocation specialist and we can begin the claims process. We’ll review the nature of the damage and most resolutions occur within 3-5 business days.
Who can I contact for any other post-move questions or concerns?
Please contact our main office at 734-545-5617 and a customer service representative or a manager is always happy to assist you.
Packing
What does “packing” mean exactly?
We define packing as the act of putting loose items into boxes on your behalf. Some examples of this are packing the contents of your kitchen, china cabinet, or clothing into boxes for you.
What about wrapping furniture and taking apart my bed?
Wondermove always includes those services, no special requests need to occur for us to pad and protect your furniture items or disassemble your beds.
What does “PBO” and “CP” mean?
These abbreviations simply denote who packed the item. CP is a carrier packed item (us) and PBO is packed by owner (you).
Does Wondermove provide boxes?
Yes, we have a wide array of high quality moving materials to pack just about anything.
Are there any items you won’t pack?
We cannot pack live plants, liquids, chemicals or any other hazardous materials.
Long Distance Moves
What is your serviceable range?
Check out the coverage map on our long distance moving page.
Do you combine truckloads?
No never, Wondermove offers exclusive truck use 100% of the time. We never combine the contents of multiple customers.
Can I select specific pickup delivery dates and/or times?
Yes and yes, it’s basically your truck! We provide exact pickup and delivery dates and even narrow the pickup and delivery windows down to an industry leading 2hr window.
Do you outsource any part of the moving process?
Absolutely not, all of our services are conducted in-house. We never outsource or subcontract our services to other companies.
How long will it take to receive my stuff?
Most movers wait until they have a full truckload before departing, but not us. We’ll start heading to your destination either same-day or next day. Depending on how far you’re moving, it typically takes 1-2 days to arrive to your final destination.
Why have I received much lower quotes from other companies?
- If moving within Michigan (>40 miles away): Be wary of such companies as all movers are mandated by law to follow the same pricing tariff per the Michigan Movers Association (click here).
- If moving to another state: This could be for a number of reasons (most aren’t good). To make a proper comparison, compare delivery timelines and ask if they’re subcontracting any part of the job out. In many cases, your items will bounce from warehouse to warehouse, or your move will brokered out to multiple companies without your knowledge, BE CAREFUL!
Other Questions
Can I ride in the vehicle between locations?
Unfortunately not, this presents too much a liability concern. We recommend planning accordingly with Uber/Lyft if you need a ride between locations.
Should I tip the movers?
They would certainly appreciate it but it’s not mandatory. We believe a tip should reflect the quality of work you received. We typically see 5-20% depending on the size of the move.
How big is the truck?
We operate 18′ to 26′ trucks. The truck size we assign is dependent on the details of your inventory.
How many movers are included?
This will be disclosed on your estimate. The crew count is dependent on the size/scope of the move.
Can you dismount my TV?
Yes, this can be done at an additional charge
I’ve heard of companies no-showing, does that happen with Wondermove?
We never no-show our customers, period.
Can my move get cancelled?
This can only occur during inclement weather such as sustained downpours, thunderstorms, tornadoes, and heavy snow/ice. Such events are typically foreseen and we’ll work expeditiously to find the best resolution for you.
